SLO 2 Artifact: Minor

This artifact is a formal Micro Essay that I wrote for the Poetry assessment titled “Bear Witnessing.” Within the assignment, I examined Fernando Perez’s strategies of bear witnessing along with Emily Fernadez’s book called “Procession of Martyrs.” For this assignment, the students and I were asked to write a 500-750 word analytical response about the definition of bear witness and to apply it to a poem read in the “Procession of Martyrs.” This artifact connects to the Student Learning Outcomes because it connects to critical thinking and reading, along with engagement and textual analysis. Within my micro essay, I decided to use the poem, “Summer Solstice.” I chose to focus on how repetition lived within the poem and how it showcases trauma without expressing it out loud. I also exclaimed how bearing witness is a two-man job and that the reader must read without judgment and with a positive attitude. I also displayed my understanding my incorporting Perez’s knowledge from his TED talk and putting his ideas into the content. Overall, this micro essay showed my abilities to unite theories and accurate analysis while at the same time staying respectful and thoughtful to heavy material that involves suffering, silences, and survival.
